Since my kids only have my parents they send $. I usually spend 1/2 so they get 2 from them and 1 from my sister. Also my cousin has been exchanging so 1 from her. THAT IS PLENTY! Especially when it's times 5 and you have 2 Dec bdays... : )Jeaniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04434551622173988675noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-706228562873668290.post-63658320601881343712007-11-13T20:03:00.000-06:002007-11-13T20:03:00.000-06:00That's a good idea, Vicki.Actually I didn't mentio...That's a good idea, Vicki.

Actually I didn't mention what my dad's side of the family does. My dad and all his siblings and many of the descendants still get together early in December. Each person just brings a gift - E.G. I would bring a female gift and we would bring a male gift from Kelly.

Then we play the game that I have heard several names for. Basically you draw a number and the first one opens a gift. The next number can either take it or open a new one. Once a person has a gift three times it is his/hers and cannot be taken any more. Maybe it is just my family, but it is great fun there. It is also nice because we never know from year to year who all will be there, so drawing names wasn't even practical. And these are real gifts, not white elephant gifts, although not very expensive ones. Kelly got a cordless screwdriver one year. People bring homemade blankets to wall decorations to electric mixers. But the gamesmanship of it is what is fun, esp. with our big family.

There are many ways to get creative about things, even Christmas!Tamihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00664895690600282835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-706228562873668290.post-59984031807719657392007-11-13T17:16:00.000-06:002007-11-13T17:16:00.000-06:00My sister's kids are all grown and starting their ...My sister's kids are all grown and starting their own families now. I am not close to any of them any more; so, finally, last year, I talked them into not exchanging gifts. Instead, we donated to various charities in their names. This way I don't spend time trying to figure out what people I don't really know would like. It was great fun because I donated to causes that had some connection to them. E.G. One of my nieces is a neonatologist; so I donated to the Pregnancy Center; the other niece's husband is a policeman; so I donated to the policmen's fund. I reserved the right to buy a gift for my niece's brand new baby--cause that's too fun by itself.walkmomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14728648852375826408noreply@blogger.com
