Swimming in Clothing

I can't stay in denial any longer. I have put off pulling out the kids' fall clothing as long as possible. After all, we live in south Texas, where sandals are a year round shoe. However, it has finally starting cooling off enough that pants are getting to be needed on occasion. Soon it will be long sleeves, and maybe even boots! Don't get me wrong, I love fall! My favorite season, actually. But I dread the great switch out of all the clothes. Especially in fall, it takes several hours to see who has pants that fit, etc.

So I spent this afternoon pulling out the bins of winter clothes for the oldest two girls, putting away most of their summer clothing (I can't put it all away, since it is very likely to be in the 80s next week), surveying what fits, and making a list of what is lacking. This evening I'll tackle the clothes for the youngest two. Tomorrow, the middle two. That's the plan anyway.

Last year when I did this, I wrote quite a lengthy post about how I manage all the clothing. If you are interested you can read it here. One thing that really helps me is a chart I drew up on Excel. This helps me keep straight what I still need to acquire for each girl. Of course, I need to add Ashlynn now, but I doubt she'll need too much of anything.

Tami,
I LOVE THIS! Sorry to seem like a stalker to your blog, but you are full of wonderful information. We have 4 boys and 1 girl. This year has been sad as my 7 yo finally needs 7's and my almost 6 yo needs his old 6's. Many which are Wholy(is that a word).

I agree with your dread. Right now my living room is a mess because all of the winter clothes are out and I am in the process of going through them. It is a HUGE mess. Then, I know that there won't be anywhere to put these clothes since in south Texas we can't put away the summer clothes. We just have to add the winter ones. I like the chart idea. That would really help keep it straight and keep me from spending too much on a shopping spree.

Today was my day, too. My kids all wanted long sleeves this morning. I have had piles of clothes in almost every upstairs room. And we are swimming in clothes. How did we get so many in some sizes and so few in others? And I still can't get rid of some of those fours of Lydia's. They still fit, but so do a lot of the sixes. Rats! But I think I'm done. Until Christmas clothes!

I just did this last week and it took me 2 whole days to get the boys done, I have NO idea how you did the older girls in just one day! Thankfully, the girls don't have enough clothes to have to put winter or summer away yet. Next year I dread hehe.

I looked @ your old post and I kinda do this. My Mom suggested smaller bins as they are lighter for me to handle esp while preg and hubby will be gone(due to Military). I like them and they are clear so I can see through. Of course w/ 4 boys worth of clothes I have like 6 and need 2 more. I used to have bad OVER buying habit : (
