Today I was checking the girls' work from this morning. When I was checking Kora's spelling workbook, I learned something interesting - and very telling. :-)
Do you know the origin of the word "mortgage"?
It comes from two Latin words:
mort - meaning "dead"
and
gage - meaning "pledge"
So a mortgage is a death pledge?
